![]() ![]() Intellectual OE is demonstrated by a marked need to seek understanding and truth, to gain knowledge, and analyse and synthesise. Here are descriptions for each, and these are concepts we will repeatedly address in gifted coaching. There are five forms of overexcitabilities: psychomotor, sensual, imaginational, intellectual, and emotional, and each contributes to specific traits, strengths, and qualities (the following descriptions are drawn from Peichowski, n.d. Since the prefix ‘over’ might incorrectly give the impression that this word means unnatural or undesirable, a better translation would be ‘super-simulatability’ (Silverman, 2008). This is a term translated from the polish ‘nadpobudliwosc’. This results in heightened excitability in multiple dimensions, known as ‘overexcitability’. Sensory information reaches their brains much faster than average, and the information is processed in a significantly shorter time. Nevertheless, with gifted coaching we can realise that there are infinite forms of extraordinary abilities not captured in the conventional conception. The traditional definition of ‘giftedness’ has been limited and often associated only with IQ or traditional talents such as music or sports.
